What is KUASA Design Power Asia Design Conference?
KUASA Design Power Asia is a design conference event held in Malaysia. Comprising of a design conference, business luncheon, workshops, designer showcase cum after party.

Where is the KUASA Design Power Asia Design Conference taking place?
KUASA is held at Kota UM Campus, Jalan Tun Ismail, Kuala Lumpur, MALAYSIA. The KUASA events do not offer allocated seating, so get there early.

What is the aim of KUASA event?
The event seeks to provide inspiration with an Asian twist. It seeks to put designers in contact with other designers and other creative professions. It seeks the interaction of young designers with the more established members of the profession. It seeks to offer opportunity to those with special talent. It’s about people who have something to say who have done great work, and are prepared to share their insights, experiences and opinions through that work to inspire others and perhaps lead others into new arenas. It seeks to bring designers from all over Asia just a little bit closer together.

Who is the Conference for?
Students of Design. Designers of all disciplines. Graphic Artists, Art Directors, Creative Directors, Creative Managers, Illustrators, etc.

I'm not a designer. Why should I come to a design conference?
If you ever need to "devise a course of action aimed at changing an exisiting situation into a preferred one", you're designing!

Why should my company send people to KUASA?
In order to do things differently, organisations need to see things differently. KUASA Design Power Asia is a kind of lens which helps companies look at the world in new ways. Join us to explore best business practices, strategic planning and develop exploitable insights, tools, and knowledge. Join us to meet industry professionals and do some business networking.

KUASA seems rather on the edge of what I need to do my job.
We hope so. In biology they describe as 'the edge effect' - the tendency for a greater variety and density of organisms to cluster in the boundaries between communities. As in nature, so too in a networked economy: variety, density and interaction are success factors. These success factors do not occur naturally inside companies. On the contrary: stuck in boxes, people in companies large or small, focus on internal issues (particularly technology, and market share) and miss important developments at the edge.

What will I take away after the conference?
A better understanding of the design process. Scenarios for services that meet emerging needs in new ways. New connections and capabilities among innovative people and organisations.

There are hundreds of design events out there. Why should I choose KUASA?
We bring together different disciplines and communities that would not otherwise meet. These connections lead to all manner of new relationships and projects.


Who runs the KUASA Conference and post-conference events?
KUASA Design Power Asia is organised & run by wREGA, Malaysia's only registered graphic design association. wREGA aims to run the event as a not-for-profit event and a committee of dedicated volunteers comprising of design industry professionals is formed to help organise the event. The organising committee is overseen by its Chairman, Koh Lee Meng, who is also the current President of wREGA.

What does wREGA get out of this?
This is wREGA's first regional design conference and our largest event yet.


What role do sponsors play at KUASA?
The committee is responsible for all aspects of KUASA from pre-production including design, print management, promotion, ticket sales, secretariat administration, event design and organisation, to production including audiovisual, exhibition setup, speaker hosting, presentations, and post-production clean up and evaluation that guides the future of the event.


Why should I join the mailing list?

What is on display?
Throughout the 3-hour show, KUASA Designer Showcase + Party will have mini installations by local artists, music by the Eclectic Botz and a wall panel drawing 'live' with guest artist Little Ong from fFurious.

Will food & drinks be provided?
No. But there will be vendors selling light snacks & drinks from 6pm-8.30pm.
 
Can I bring friends who are not KUASA conference attendees?
No. The Showcase + Party are exclusive for conference attendees only on a irst come first serve basis.

Are participants from the showcase given free entry to the conference?
No. Those interested in the conference must purchase the ticket to gain entry into the conference hall.

How many friends/crew members can each participant invite?
5 persons each.

STUDENTS WORKSHOPS
 
When and where are the workshops to be held?
SUNDAY, 09 Aug 2009 -- same venue as the conference - in separate seminar rooms.

Why must I choose only one workshop?
All workshops run simultaneously from 9am - 1pm. Unless you can clone yourself...
Anyway, workshop sessions will be recorded as part of the post-conference proceedings and be made available for sale at a later date in a DVD boxset.

Can I still switch workshops after I have confirmed my seat?
Sorry, due to the very limited seats available, confirmed registrations are non-transferable...? Admin fees will not be refunded for any cancellation or no-show by the registrant, in which event, the next person on the waiting list will be offered the seat.

Why do the workshops cost only RM40/pax? What is the quality like?

The workshops are highly subsidised, done at below cost and the presenters/facillitators are keen supporters of wREGA wanting to do their bit to help the local design industry rise to the next level. Not to be missed. Strictly limited seats. Participants can expect lively, intensive hands-on masterclass style sessions. Come prepared to really participate, not just sit and watch. Learn by doing.

Do I really have to bring the things required on the list?

Yes, if you want to maximise the value from the workshops. If you lack the tools, you can just watch others have all the fun. Sharing is possible but not everyone will want to so is best to bring your own.

If I'm driving, can I enter through the University Malaya gateway located near University Hospital in Petaling Jaya?

No. That is the main campus in PJ. This is the kota campus in KL which Universiti Malaya shares with Open University Malaysia (OUM) located a short distance behind Bank Negara. Look for the signage along the road.
If you're driving - you can enter through the side road next to Bank Negara OR the road that goes behind The Mall (near PWTC) and over a bridge across Jalan Kuching. (see map)

How do I register?
Use the online form provided. Make payment via cheque, direct bank-in or ATM cash transfer...?

How much will it cost to attend?
RM 280 for design professionals. RM 200 for students.

Are there any early-bird or other discounts?
No early-bird deals. Discount available if you are a wREGA member.


Do I have to choose my workshop when I register?
Yes. This not only speeds up the registration process but also helps ensure you'll get into the workshop you want.
Interested participants may register online for only one workshop each. Strictly first come first served. So register EARLY and choose wisely.

Is there a Group Rate?
No. We assure you that you are actually getting value for money as our event is already heavily subsidised.

What does the conference registration fee include?
The fee charged includes full day conference with 6 speakers, buffet lunch, tea breaks, evening designer showcase with party and optional morning workshops (first-come-first-served basis +RM40 admin fee). Conference attendees gets priority booking privilege over the general public for the workshops.
Similar packaged events in the past easily cost RM500 or more.

I’ve just registered online, when will I receive my receipt and confirmation?
If you registered and paid online, the final page of the registration process is your receipt and confirmation. Please make certain to make a copy of your receipt for expense purposes as well as any follow-up with the KUASA Conference Registration Department. If you printed an invoice and submitted it with your check payment, we will mail you a confirmation and receipt, once your registration is received and processed.
 
Online registration without payment does NOT count as confirmation of your seat. If you selected payment by check, please be aware that all check payments must be received by the Registration Department no later than Friday 07 March 2009 in order to apply the payment to your registration.

Why do I have to create a unique log in and password for my registration?
For your privacy and protection we require anyone registering online to create a unique login for access to their registration. Having a login allows you online access to your receipt and information about your registration...?


How do I collect my KUASA conference delegates pack?
COLLECT AT THE EVENT - on the first day of the KUASA conference, passes will be available for collection on the main auditorium Level 1 of the venue. The passes are contained within the official delegates pack which will be held in alphabetical order by surname. Come early to avoid the rush. Registration & collection opens at 8:00am.

Can I buy tickets on the day?
This could be a sell-out event as seats are limited - Conference max 450pax, Workshops max 180pax. It is best to pre-register online prior to the event day as you may miss out. If there are any tickets left, you will be able to purchase them at the reception desk at the venue. However we can't promise that there will be any tickets left.

What happens if I forget or misplace my pass on the day?
We do not issue replacement passes. If you left your pass at home you will be asked to return home to get it. This event is like all other ticketed events. No pass, no entry!

I have forgotten my wREGA membership number, how can I obtain it?
Email us with your personal details to secretariat@wrega.org and we will get in touch with you for verification.

I was once a wREGA member but my membership status has lapsed because I forgot to renew my annual subscription. Can I still get the members price for the conference?
Yes, but only if you top up your annual subscription fees including the lapsed arrears BEFORE you register for the conference. You may contact us to make the necessary arrangements.

I know someone who is a wREGA member. Can I register through him/her to get the members price?
Sorry, we treat each registration individually and the discount only applies to an individual registrant and only if the registrant provides their unique wREGA membership code no. which we will cross-check with our members database.

Can I join as a wREGA member right now to take advantage of the wREGA members price?
wREGA's membership application process takes roughly one month to vet through the applicants - the wREGA exco only meets once a month, so there may not be enough time to process your application in time for this conference. If you're really interested, pls. hurry. APPLY NOW. Our next exco meeting is scheduled on 16 July 2009.

But we still encourage you to join wREGA anyhow to participate in our various activities plus take advantage of reduced members rates for any of our future events plus other benefits. Applications only costs RM20 (admin fee) + RM50 (annual subscription fee) for professionals. Students only pay a minimal RM5 + RM15 respectively. Visit the wREGA booth at the KUASA conference. Using this site

Is it possible for me to register & pay using my credit card on the KUASA Conference site?
LOCAL -- No. We prefer you pay via cheque, direct bank-in to wREGA's account or cash transfers via ATM.
INTERNATIONAL – Telegraphic Transfer.

What if I'm having problems with the online registration process?

If your problems are technical in nature (your browser is reporting errors or pages are failing to load correctly), please first try quitting and re-launching your browser, and/or restarting your computer. Also, be sure you have "accepting cookies" enabled in your browser's preferences (cookies are required for the registration form to work). If the issue persists, contact us and explain your problem in as much detail as you can.

How can I recommend a speaker, or let you know I am interested in speaking myself?
By all means. Please contact us to recommend a speaker. Call or email us secretariat@wrega.org. If you put a name forward, it is added to our speakers long list, where it will be considered - but you will only hear from us if you are shortlisted as a speaker. It is too late for this KUASA conference but anything is possible for the next conference or other wREGA events. 

How do I get to speak at KUASA Conference?

With difficulty. KUASA is not an academic conference - therefore we do not call for papers. Rather, we spend a lot of time researching our theme and checking out potential speakers.

I have a workshop idea for the Conference—how can I tell you about it?
Please contact us to send us your ideas. We are always open to new ideas.

Yes? We do our best to make sure our facility has total accessibility, and we do whatever is needed to make attending the Conference as convenient as possible for all attendees. If you have a special need, please contact us at kuasa2009@wrega.org after you have registered and we'll make special arrangements, if necessary.

Are there volunteer opportunities at KUASA Design Conference?
Students may be eligible for the KUASA Design Conference 2009 volunteer program. Please email us for more information.
